Each semester the friars at St. Dominic Priory host a Come & See Weekend for young men discerning a vocation to the Dominican Order. This serves as an opportunity for men to pray with us, learn about our charism and ministries, and meet other men who are similarly discerning God’s call in their lives.
The event has several talks that help to relay important information about the history of the Dominican Order and the Dominican Provinces of St. Albert the Great and St. Martin de Porres, about our spirituality as Active Contemplatives, about our spirituality and program of study, about the two-fold vocations within the Order as priests or cooperator brothers, as well as discussions of practical steps that a man can do to better discern the ways the ways that he might give his life in service of God and the Church. We also have panel discussions and small groups to allow men to ask pertinent questions about Dominican life.
The weekend also includes time to pray. We observe the schedule of the regular life of the Priory – we pray Lauds, Vespers and Compline together in common. We celebrate Mass together. We spend time before the Blessed Sacrament. Each of these experiences in prayer serve as moments of grace to worship God, to praise God and to listen more deeply to God’s voice.
This weekend, we will host 30 men asking themselves if God is calling them to become preachers of grace as Dominican friars. We ask you to pray for them and to pray for us – that God will send more laborers into his vineyard for the harvest is plentiful.
